Indica vs Sativa vs Hybrid: A Simple Ontario Guide

Walk into any dispensary and you’ll see three words over and over: indica, sativa, and hybrid. They’re the most common way cannabis is sorted, and also the most misunderstood. Here’s what they actually mean and how to choose.

The quick version: indica is traditionally linked to relaxing, body-focused effects. Sativa to uplifting, daytime effects. Hybrid blends the two. It’s a fine starting point, but the label on the package tells you more.

What actually predicts the effect is cannabinoids and terpenes. THC drives the high; CBD is non-intoxicating and often chosen for a calmer, clearer experience. Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that shape each strain’s character, which is why two indicas can feel different.

A practical rule: use indica, sativa, or hybrid as a starting filter, then let THC and CBD levels and the terpene profile make the final call. Our staff can walk you through both in store.

To relax in the evening, look at indicas or indica-leaning hybrids. For daytime or social time, try sativas or sativa-leaning hybrids. If you’re newer to cannabis, start with lower-THC or CBD-forward products, and with edibles, start low and go slow.

By format: flower and pre-rolls act quickly and are easy to control; vapes are convenient and fast; edibles and beverages last longer and are smoke-free; concentrates are potent and best for experienced users.

Labels help, but the fastest way to find your product is to ask someone who knows the shelf. At Reserved Cannabis, our staff match people to products by effect, format, and budget.
